Disable sweeping edge/area damage on a sword/weapon

Disable sweeping edge/area damage on a sword/weapon

Hi, me and my friend are making a mod for minecraft version 1.19.2 forge, he is doing the spriting and 3d modelling and i am putting everything into MCreator. We are adding alot of different weapon variants and some of them we dont want to have the sweeping edge area damage effect, as it doesnt fit with the weapon, for example we dont want daggers or gauntlets to be able to hurt multiple mobs at once, like a vanilla sword does, just one mob at a time.

Is there any way to disable the sweeping edge effect? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

One workaround would be to use other tool types and change the attack damage and speed to match the weapon.  One note with this system is that you will need to turn down block breaking speed.  Also, axes can disable shields so you probably don't want that for a dagger.
