Website update and professional version survey

After a few software updates, it was time for another website update. We have made a survey for the community about professional version of MCreator for commercial use too.

Commercial version survey

As this one is quite important for both us and you - the users of MCreator, we have decided to make this the main point of this article.

In the past, we have been asked a lot about an option to create unbranded mods and mods that can be used commercially (ads on the website of the mod, AdFly, ...). As MCreator is free, our decision was to keep it free as long as mods made by the community are free and non-commercial too.

We could change this by providing a commercial license (version) of MCreator. Users that would like to use MCreator for commercial purposes and would like to have more commercially and professionally oriented features would simply pay for the commercial license. Such license could include other services such as mod update server, more storage, no ads on the website, collaborative work support too. MCreator, as is, would stay free, but we would offer a commercial version as well.

We made the survey to find out how much interest there is for such version so we get some insight on whether we should move things in the direction of option for the commercial version.

Each answer will help us decide on how to shape the future of MCreator better

Website update

Now back to the website update. You most likely noticed that we have changed the front page a bit. The image slider has been removed and a bigger Download button has been added, so the users can now easily find the download of MCreator. Issue tracker categories and MCreator versions are now clickable. By clicking on the MCreator version or the issue category, all issues tagged with this version or category are shown, so users can now find the tickets they are looking for faster.

New wiki section pages were introduced too. These section pages group similar wiki pages together. You can jump between pages in the same section from the wiki pages themselves too. Wiki homepage has been improved with a new design and some new links were added to find important pages easier.

Bug with comments being posted multiple times in some cases was fixed and another comment bug with pagination of comments not working after posting a comment was fixed.

We have improved the design and user experience of the website under maintenance page too, but we hope you didn't notice this one and you won't have to :)

What is next?

We are working on some new interesting surprises for you, so stay tuned on our social networks for the announcements! We have some nice plans for MCreator 1.8.2 update too. Stay tuned and don't forget to help us by filling out the survey and providing us with your aspects on the commercial version of MCreator.

We will make sure that the base difference in features between versions would be minimal. We have rotatable blocks in plan for future updates already :)

Workspace stability is planned to be improved too.

Hey Klemen. new Minecraft model maker you should add into MCreator. it's called Blockbench. it's got a lot of features then techne. it's got advanced texture making and more features to it.

here's what it looks like here

Is it me or commercial releases of anything are the lowest-performing pieces of hardware that always crash. The professional version, well is amazing and only crashes when something happens in the OS.

I think people are getting confused, been able to have a pro version as you call it will let use brand the mod ourselves getting around a few websites MCreator block yes many websites block MCreator mods, also been able to sell our mods or out it on a set that accepts loads of ads/ad links.

These things are important at times, like myself I make my mod for a 3ed party and sometimes they want to control all copyright, this is also important, the EULA of the free version at this date does not give use that control.

He has made it very clear that the free version will not change it will be the same app with a few changes to the branding/while labeling, this is important in this kind of world, and soon very important in the EU new laws and rules as we need away to protect our work.

Yes, maybe I did not stress enough that in case if the mod was made with the commercial version, all mod rights and credits would belong to the end user. This is quite an important point.

Regarding feature differences, we would add some tools for collaborative work and professional use only.

It makes sense to use that need this option, or have been requested it to be hosted or updated by our community in a way the EULA can't support, I also think some of the younger users might not understand the change, since many of the younger users don't use 3ed party sites or understand the copyright movement going about at the moment so I can see some getting confused.

But long as you stick to normal functions are the same between the version I think once they see it there in front of them they would be happier, it's hard to see a change before hand for some users, I not sure what your poll says at the moment but I would have to say don't listen to comments just yet just listen to the hard numbers then once you have a path of yes or no then put out the comments and ideas

I really like this idea! I'd like to see it come into action in the near future.

Do you think you can say something about the results of the survey if you think the time is right? or was it just a internal thing. i really would like to know how much people would also pay for mcreator, which price, etc. :D

With a "learn to code bundle for Minecraft with it" for example I want to make a block that generates with a hidden 1 number code, that can be decoded using a 'code breaker' item.

Sorry, but even though this defeats the programs objective, I would like it to teach you how to code for
Minecraft while in the program. This also could help other players make tutorials on how to do more things
as well as learn to code in java.

Are bugs with Wiki pages like broken gifs and size of headers fixed ? :D
Also will you bring Live Chat back to the website ?

No, I am still not sure what is causing that your GIFs don't work unfortunately as I can't reproduce this as they work when I try it.

Regarding live chat, the main issue is moderation of such chat so I am not sure we will add this back. And another issue is that information is lost. Users ask the same thing all over again on live chats, but on the other side on forums, the info and findings (fixes and tips) remain public so all can learn and read the posts of users.
