MCreator's transparent block feature is missing
Tue, 03/19/2019 - 19:29 (edited)

Hello everyone,

I am new to the mcreator block and other entities building software and had ran into perhaps a bug in the software. I am on version 1.7.3 for 1.7.10 of Minecraft as I am designing custom blocks for a modpack for a ruin city that I have been working on for the past two months. So as the name of the forum suggests once you go under the "create a new element" tab and then select "block" and name it it takes you to the block layout and type of block section. I'm pretty sure you know what I am talking about, anyways, I see all the "usual' tabs except for one, by the name of transparency. There should be according to the wiki article by the name of "How to create a block" a transparency tab right under the rendering tab, however it is not present.  I know I installed this program properly as it was capable of going through the forge downloading and designing process, so this puts me under the following options: first as I am doing concurrently with the changelog is asking the forums that appear to be active. Second reinstalling the whole program and seeing if it will have the feature and third is find an alternative in which I have one put it is not as advanced is this program and will not look the greatest. Anyways, this feature is imperative to the creation of the hightech windows and old windows as they are windows and shall be transparent or translucent in which I know both of these exist in the program at it's current 1.7.10 state.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Consider updating MCreator to a later version as many features are lacking in 1.7.3 which is very outdated.

I wish I can do that but the latest version for minecraft 1.7.10 is 1.7.3 I can't go to 1.12.2 I already worked on the city I mentioned earlier for two months. Unless I can make a block with the latest version that can be used for 1.7.10 but I doubt that severely due to minecraft's version conflicts. Also According to the changelog, block transparency was added in version 1.5.8 as stated in this note "Added support for the block transparency with levels" now I have 1.7.3 which is high than that version by a long shot. Unless the transparency feature was not put into play for 1.7.10 after this version and was kept on 1.8 and above I do not see why I do not have it. Anyways my point is the latest MCreator was updated for 1.7.10 was 1.7.3 and I can't go to 1.12.2.

I have checked the interface of 1.7.3 and to enable transparency, check these two boxes in block editor:

  • Don't render as normal block
  • Has alpha?

This should work.

After I save I click on the element than edit it right? When say compile you mean create the element right? Also another question does your import 3D model tool accept .glb files such as something created on paint 3D?

No, in 1.7.3 only Java models are supported. 1.7.3 is very limited compared to newer MCreator's.

Then why not update this version as it is the latest for 1.7.10 to have the same features as the newer version. Also I tried checking the two boxes alpha and don't render normally and the option is still not there I am confused on what I do after that. And how do different versions of Minecraft effect the block creating system, doesn't it remain the same, what i mean is how come then newest version is on 1.12.2 while the older are 1.7.10 what is the difference in the process between the two versions? What does alpha and don't render normally mean? The wiki doesn't elaborate on this. Thank you again.

These two options tell Minecraft that the block has transparency.

For your 1.7.10 question, I have written this a lot of times. Minecraft 1.7.10 is SERIOUSLY outdated and Minecraft Forge developers discourage users from using it and so do we. We plan to make support for custom generator plugins in the near future and if the community is interested enough, they can develop a plugin for 1.7.10 code generator.

Ok so the two boxes tell if a block has transparency when I check them and go into the game to see if the blocks are transparent the block is not transparent? So I am confused on how this helps it as according to the code the block is still opaque and once I set that to false it still isn't transparent. Is it possible to create block elements on a newer version and use it for 1.7.10 if not why as I don't see how the blocks change over the updates.

Unfortunately, you can't make mods in a newver version for older Minecraft versions.

I believe there are quite a lot of YouTube tutorials on 1.7.3 so I suggest to try to find if any of them covers your issue.

I been experimenting with ways to get the blocks to be transparent and cant seem to find a way. So a quick question, I have a mod that adds in a ton of glass blocks what if I edit the textures they use in paint with my textures. I tried doing this before but once I extracted the files and changed the textures and then compress it again, I was able to do this through changing the .java to .zip and the the .zip ro. Java. After I did this the mod did not showed up which makes no sense since all I changed there is the textures.

well then how do I edit the files in a .java file? All I want to to do is change the textures for the blocks one of my mods uses.
