MCreator 2, PRO, and what is this 2019.5 thing?

MCreator 2, PRO, and what is this 2019.5 thing?

People are asking us where is MCreator 2, MCreator PRO, not to mention the new versioning format. We decided to clear these things up in this article. Read on!

MCreator PRO is not going to be a thing

We did not receive any response from the Mojang so our decision is that we will not turn MCreator in a commercial way. MCreator will stay "free for everyone" project and non-commercial in nature. Although this sounds nice, it means that we will need other sources to make this project viable and to pay development and website costs.

Therefore we have decided that we will be accepting donations instead. We will set up the donations system in the near future and anyone who wants to can support our project by donating.

What will happen to announced PRO features?

This does not mean that PRO features will go to nothing. We will add the option for snapshot downloads and dark website mode to all users in the upcoming days.

For the software PRO features, the PRO branch has many changes compared to the 2019.5 development branch so it will take some time to merge them. This means most of the "PRO" features will not make it to 2019.5 yet, but surely will in the next update after it. All users will get remote workspace features and quick modding tools. The licensing of mods will change too; we will no longer require mods to be released under our distribution license. We will add an option to change credits text and package and class names too (debranding option), although we will be still happy of each attribution to our work :)

Open source?

Our new long term plan is to opensource MCreator so we can get more people to work on this project, but there are still some roadblocks that we need to overcome before going this way, including finding people that would be ready to contribute to the project and are competent enough for this, choosing the license and cleaning up the code and documenting it to make the sense of open-sourcing it.

Version 2019.5 and MCreator 2

You might have noticed that there is a new version entry on the issue tracker and on the changelog: MCreator 2019.5. And MCreator 1.9.2 is gone from the changelog. This is because we are now switching the versioning scheme. In the old scheme, numbers did not have any meaning and now we are changing this.

New version format is <release year>.<release number in year>. Full version format is <release year>.<release number in year>.<build number>, where the build number is an identifier of the patch for the given version. Our final goal is to make patch updates more consistent and happen from the application without having to re-download the version.

So the next update will be 2019.5, because it will be released in the year 2019 and it will be the fifth major release this year, thus 2019.5.

But what about MCreator 2?

2019.5 can be considered the first update of the MCreator 2 branch. 2019.5 will support both Minecraft 1.12.2 and Minecraft 1.14.4 and with this, our MCreator 2 roadmap will be complete. This does not mean that all the feature requests for MCreator 2 will not happen, right the opposite. We have finally completed our roadmap and will now focus on the features even more.

Tell us what you think about these changes in the comments, we value your feedback. Stay tuned!

UPDATE:

The donations page is now up and running. If you want to support our project, you can now do so by donating to the developers. Thank you for all your donations!

Those are fantastic news for us, but it's sad Mojang didn't reply...
Anyway, can't wait for MCreator 2 :)

the road map is finished so people's ideas will now start to get in to mcreator.
The Mcreator team can start doing big requests like custom enchantments and more :)

Thanks for clearing up all these questions :)
Things were getting a little confusing.

It’s a shame you won’t be making it commercial as I think you guys deserve to earn some decent revenue for the amount of work you put in but hopefully people donate so you can continue the amazing work.

Looking forward to 2019.5 and beyond!

So if planet Minecraft doesn’t know if a mod is made from MCreator, it won't ban it?
