My giant mob hitbox doesn't work above the legs

I created a giant mob 20 blocks high, but his hitbox only works on his legs in two specific situations: when he attacks me and when I attack him with melee weapons. however when I use a bow and arrow to shoot it takes damage anywhere in the hitbox. can anybody help me?
