[Solved] Blockbench items darker in GUI and flickering in hand/item frame
Sat, 07/17/2021 - 21:39 (edited)

As said with topic title. I used Blockbench blocks without any struggle, but when I tried to make item, it's almost completely dark in GUI (in inventory), and when I hold it in my hand or put it on item frame, it flickers from time to time, instead of having smooth light transitions (as vanilla items do).

I tried putting different light source (front/side light), turned off ambient occlusion, and I use no OptiFine shaders, but the problem still appears. Please help, it's the only thing keeping me away from releasing new update for mod :<

Below screenshot with two models (both have these issues) and two sprite versions of them in GUI. Model in hand has darker sides than it should be as well (and it changes constantly into bright version and back).

Solved!!! I'm so so happy :D

The problem was caused by using "mirror" feature which doesn't really work with 1.15+ models apparently. So disabling it in hand view and GUI one solved the issue! (and yes, you need to manually turn each value to set model view to be mirrored because of that, but it's better than weird visual glitch, right?)

I'm so happy, man, I can finally finish snapshot for my mod ^^

Hi Toma400, I'm happy you found the solution to the issue with the items being dark in the GUIs.  I had a similar issue until I realised I had 'side light' instead of 'front light' selected in Blockbench.

Yeah, while searching for solution, a lot of people suggested 'front light' (as well as turning off ambient occlusion). Although it could be helpful for a lot of people, since it's common issue, for me it changed nothing :D
And what's funny, I realised what was the issue due to different bug - but it was thanks to discussion, so I just tested if wrong rendering can be caused by that.

But thanks for the comment, if anyone has similar issue, it can be helpful to have as many solutions for it as possible ^^
