I need help with hostile mobs spawning in light.

I want a hostile mob to spawn during the day and night. I need it to spawn on coarse dirt. I can't set it to creature because creatures only spawn on grass and if I set it to ambient it only spawns in caves. The dimension they spawn in also never turns dark so if there set to monster they only spawn in caves anyway. Is there a procedure to fix this?
