Item descriptions can have their colors changed using Minecraft's formatting codes, but they seem to ignore being italicized and bolded. I haven't checked whether obfuscation, underline, or strikethrough apply properly, but I believe it is safe to assume they don't.
Again, this only happens with the item's description, not the item's name.
Please let me know whether this is intentional or not, or if I am simply missing an important piece of information.
