hide/unhide individual model groups

Hi I have a project I've been working on for about 2~ish months now and it involves a staff that you can customise I have all the things working so it is usable but visually I don't know how I'd have it so I can mix and match the different parts for instance I have the groups/parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 but I only want the groups/parts 3, 1 & 6 to be visible and be able to hide the rest, I have had a look through the forums for an answer but I can't seem to find any if anyone could help or send me in the correct direction that'd be great!
