Why I Am Giving Up on MCreator and Minecraft Modding

I’ve been trying to work with MCreator 2025.2, and after a long struggle, I’ve decided to stop making mods. Here are the main reasons:

The interface has become too complex.

The menus, numbers, and structures are overwhelming. What used to feel simple now feels like constant confusion.

Textures and visuals are hard to manage.

Creating and handling textures in the current version is far too demanding for me. Even with tools, it doesn’t feel accessible.

Tag structures and procedures are too technical.

I don’t want to get lost in JSON tags or complex procedures. The way these systems are built is not beginner-friendly anymore.

Older versions were easier.

I could actually enjoy making mods in past versions, but now the newer releases have buried simplicity under too many layers.

AI tools didn’t fix the problem.

I even tried using AI to help me, but the complexity of MCreator still creates more problems than solutions.

Loss of enjoyment.

Modding is supposed to be fun, but the way things are now makes it feel more like work than creativity.

Closing Statement

I appreciate the effort of the creators, admins, and community, but the reality is simple: MCreator has become too hard for me to enjoy. If the goal was to make modding more accessible, this direction doesn’t work for me anymore. So this is my goodbye to Minecraft modding.

Part 2 – Why It Finally Killed the Joy

If my first message wasn’t clear, please listen carefully to this second part.

The software killed the joy of modding for me.

What once was creative and enjoyable has now turned into frustration.

I no longer have anything left to learn.

The complexity has grown so high that I feel locked out. Instead of building mods, all I can realistically do with my time now is:

Play games.

Use AI to generate images.

That’s all I can still enjoy.

Even with effort, there’s no progress.

I tried using AI for guidance.

I tried following tutorials and researching.

I even considered YouTube and other resources.

But nothing changes the fact that MCreator 2025.2 is simply too difficult for me.

Older versions were more forgiving.

In the past, the community created simpler guides, and the software itself was easier to handle. That balance is gone now.

Closing Thought

I’m not asking for pity. I’m just stating that the current version of this software has taken away what used to make modding fun for me. It’s too hard, too technical, and too heavy. That is why I can no longer continue.

So your issue is that the program has a much higher ceiling now, and you don’t want to push into that complexity. Not everything has to be about reaching the top or making the best mods possible. What matters is making what you find fun it's not a competition. Creativity will always take effort, though, and if you don’t want to put that effort in anymore, that’s understandable but that doesn’t mean the software itself is broken.

The problem isn’t just that the software has become more advanced. I understand that complexity is part of creativity, and I’m not against putting in effort. My situation is more complex than just “not wanting to push myself” or “treating it like a competition.” The reality is that when tools evolve, they don’t always stay accessible to different kinds of creators. It’s not about refusing effort—it’s about how the software’s growth changes what kind of work is possible and who can realistically keep up with it.

Even as the software grows and becomes more advanced, my struggle isn’t just with complexity. I know the older version, like 1.8.3, was far easier to understand, but my issue goes deeper than that. I’ve tried to design or find a version that works at my level, but nothing exists. Searching online doesn’t help, and even AI tools can’t really grasp how the program is built.

The problem isn’t solved by short answers or quick tutorials. I can only work when I fully understand the whole complexity. I need methods that combine visualizing, talking, and doing at the same time, not the usual “watch a tutorial, then do it later” approach. That’s why I can’t follow the newer versions—there aren’t good tutorials for my style of learning, and without that, I can’t keep up.

“I’m not ‘making excuses.’ I have Cogan’s Congenital Ocular Motor Apraxia (sometimes called Cogan’s Cogenial Ocular Motor Apraxie). This is a neurological/visual condition that makes it hard for me to see, track, and process visual information the way other people can.

It isn’t just about drawing or painting. It affects how I learn, how I follow instructions, and how I coordinate actions — especially when I’m expected to do several things at once or process complex visual patterns quickly. I can manage things step by step and I can synchronize tasks, but when everything is thrown at me at the same time, I can’t keep up.

This isn’t a lack of effort or willpower; it’s part of my real-life limitations. I’m just trying to explain why some systems, like MCreator’s current interface, are overwhelming for me.”

Please try to understand this, because it’s not a matter of willpower or effort.

I live with Cogan’s Congenital Ocular Motor Apraxia.

This condition permanently affects my eyes. It’s not just about vision — it affects how I track, focus, and process information.

Seeing and hearing at the same time is hard.

I can’t “zoom in/zoom out” mentally the way people tell me to. I can’t read signs quickly or process a lot of visual information at once. I learn mostly by watching others over time, not by instructions.

Visualizing is hard, not drawing.

It’s not that I can’t “paint a picture” — it’s that my brain struggles to build a mental model of what’s being shown to me. There’s no medical cure for this. Eye surgery doesn’t fix it. Glasses don’t “heal” it. My left eye is at 60% vision, my right eye at 80%, and that will not improve.

Complex software makes this worse.

Older versions of modding tools were simpler and easier for me to manage step by step. The current versions bury everything under numbers, procedures, and layers I can’t process.

My life is very limited because of this.

Right now my daily life revolves around watching YouTube, playing games, and using AI. I don’t have friends in real life because people see me as “miserable” or they use me as a target for topics I don’t want to hear.

Closing

I’m not making excuses or being dramatic. I’m telling you how my disability intersects with the way this software works now. I simply cannot keep up anymore, and that’s why I’ve stopped.

Maybe just use some older version? I'm using 2021.1 and in general it's working just fine for me.

That really sucks but again its not the program's fault. It is just an unfortunate situation.

Wish you the best!
