Can I make an animation to attack with a weapon

I started getting interested after I tried to create a mod for all sorts of cool weapons and mobs. And just the same I needed to make a beautiful animation, because I think that the usual animation attack... Uninteresting, ugly and many other synonyms for this word. Even if it can't be done, I'll wait.
