How to use command parameters

I'm trying to make a command which strikes a player with lightning (/smite <targets>). Just like the Essentials plugin. But I couldn't get the parameter to work. How do I get it to work?

If I understood it correctly you have to remove the <targets> in the command

Yep U need to remove <Targets> thingy the parameter chances with the "space" U press to input another parameter like;

/say(space) <Text>

also U make the execute run like //execute
