help getting vanilla textures (says to extract .jar but its .json???)

I want to import vanilla textures and the wiki says to go to .minecraft\versions folder and open resent version to get a .jar file and extract it. There are no .jar files to be found there, only .json files. The only version folder I find there is 1.14.3 and 1.14.4 pre-2. winrar cannot extract .json files. Am I in the wrong place? I do not know what I am doing, please help.

I think I know what your problem is. If you want the .jar file to appear, you have to run that version if you haven't run it before. If that doesn't work, I don't know how to fix it.

Which version has .jar files? Btw, I'm aware of the difference between file types but thank you for that clarity.

So you are going into this file path and there are no .jar files? All versions have .jar files.

c:Users\(something)\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\versions\1.14.4

Thats weird. Maybe it was deleted or got corrupted. Try going into another version folder.

Once you get into the .jar folder, click on assets and then on minecraft. There are your textures.

I found them. For some reason version 14.3 and beyond does not have the .jar file, only the .json file. 14.2 and below, I'm guessing, have both files.
