if i create a textur for a Json model does it have to be the uv texture or does it have to be a 2d texture

if i create a textur for a Json model does it have to be the uv texture or does it have to be a 2d texture

I created a json 3d model on blockbench but I need to know abot the part in the item that asks for the texture does it need to be the uv texture from the modeler or can it be the 2d texture I want it to show.
