Commands do not show up in my mod.

Hello,

     I notice that when I type 't' in my originally purchased Minecraft computer game, a console comes up and when I type '/' I get a list of commands (such as 'give'), but, when I run my mod, and press 't' and '/' only a few commands show up, and 'give' is not one of them. Why is that?
