Is there a way to add code to mods with type, and not the blocks that the code editor defaults to when modding?

You can, you just need to select the element you want to edit in the workspace, then click on the button that says "edit code of selected mod element" on the left side, a bit below the "create mod element" button. Here's a picture of where to click: https://imgur.com/a/FhOHr4a
