Need help with a custom furnace

 Hi. I'm making a custom machine which works like a furnace but doesn't need fuel and only accepts one specific item to turn it into another. How can I make it? By the way the block that has the gui has a front face, but it always looks to the north from whatever direction I place it, how do I fix that? Thank you
