Struggling to texture custom armour

I'm just trying to make a custom helmet which i have a model and normal texture for but when I try to add it it asks for a layer 2 so I added a random image as Im not adding boots however when I add the armour texture I get a warning saying I don't have an armour texture when I do

I'm in general just wanting to scream at MCreators armour maker rn
