Custom Buttons in MCreator
Wed, 06/02/2021 - 15:43 (edited)

Hello!

I'm posting this idea (hoping it's not duplicate of any kind) because the more I worked on my mod, the more I saw my frustration with GUIs. It's quite hard to make easy-to-use GUI without buttons, and while I get it, buttons are rather unavoidable, they look really bad in any GUI with dedicated design. The only way for them to be somehow acceptable is to make them extremely small, but that rarely works.

So, it would be great to have possibility to:

  • button being custom image
  • make button size customizable on vertical axis (as I didn't find any way to change it, size is customizable only on horizontal ones)

I get that this can be pain to make (such as redstone signal emitting), so I think the second idea can be enough if custom images are too much of a problem.
Either way, it would be really great to have custom buttons introduced, so GUIs will be able to look much more beautiful.

It would be great to be able to customize the size of the buttons.

You can change it only on…

You can change it only on horizontal axis (so, width), but not on the vertical ones (height).
Tried that many times and it never worked. So unless there are additional buttons needed to be pressed during moving, I guess this is not what MCreator offers by now (and this is why I asked also for that, because it feels weird to being limited only to horizontal axis).

I support this thing. I'm sure that such a function will make MCreator and mods that made in it much better

Also add: the user interface…
Thu, 07/15/2021 - 12:35

Also add: the user interface in the MCreator is very poorly developed. I am creating a mod in the creation of which, in no way can I do without detailed customization of the user interface, and I still cannot program. I specially downloaded the MCreator so as not to see these scary sets of numbers and letters. I noticed the only drawback of auto-programs, like the MCreator - much less options. I am aware that it is possible to program there, but this is not suitable for people who are inexperienced in programming. Why are people not at the same opportunity? It is not correct that an experienced programmer can create a mod in the MCreator (before that having no dealings with him) better than a person who is not fumbling in this, but who understands all the options of the MCreator for 5 years already. The MCreator is loved for this: the lack of self-programming by the user, and you do not develop it.

I don't get your opinion, DimaFsn. You get that program for free, and while of course, you are free to criticise it, why are you doing it in so demanding way? Like, if you are doing complex mod, you should be aware that MCreator can be not enough - and MCreator develops features for all types of modders, not only people like you. This means that they need to sacrifice some detailed features to release more general (and therefore, more needed) ones. It would suck much more if you could add extremely detailed GUI, but no dimension or mobs in exchange. And if you do need detailed GUI, then you ask for it politely, not demand it. You can demand something from your worker, if you paid for it and [s]he promised to finish. Demanding something from passionate guys offering you free and really well-developed program is rude, that's all.

I'm not even sure you follow their development process, because with that you wouldn't even say that words, seeing how much -they are developing- for 2021.2.
