Then you should probably update your mcreator and install a 1.12.2 generator plugin 

1.12.2 Generator plugin will not work anymore, starting from 2021.2

Also, there's not really a purpose in installing plugin for this feature, since it doesn't really add new features - and in some point, it is less intuitive.

As for question about shields - I do port of my mod for 1.12.2, and one of its features were shield-like system. I can try to implement it soon and see if it works for 1.12 correctly or not, and tweak things. You can hit me up on Discord or just comment here after a month or two, so I can update you on progress (or, if progress is done and working, write a tutorial).

Nah, I feel kinda unmotivated, and latest few months were kinda tough on time-stress for me. I will come back to 1.12 version at some point, but for now I try to make 1.16 mods to have motivation comeback ;-;

just use direction and x axe and your shield will perfectly work
