Can you edit vanilla items with MCreator

Hi I've been working with MCreator for a small amount of time and I'm currently creating a mod and I've gotten to the stage where I need to modify a vanilla armour set to balance it with my mod.

Is there a way to edit vanilla items and if so can it be done in a way which works with other mods?
