make a block shoot a beam like a beacon

How can I make that a custom block will shoot a beacon beam like the normal one (without being to change the color)?

You could spawn a custom…

You could spawn a custom entity without collision above the block with the 3d model of a long beacon.

I never tried this before, but it might work...
