Only Update When Player in Range

Only Update When Player in Range

So I've made a custom infinite structure generator block that updates and spreads infinitely, but it gets pretty laggy once it gets to the edge of generation. I made it in a superflat dimension, and I have heavy fog on, is there a way to make it so that the block only tries to spawn a structure if the player is 40 blocks or less away?
