Set custom block to any block in the mod or vanilla?

I have a custom block that is basically a ghost block but I need it to change its texture to another block depending on an input given through gui. So if example I enter minecraft:dirt, my block's texture will turn into a dirt block's texture. Can anyone help me? I'm fine with coding if you explain it well.
