How do I make villagers dropping items when killed

So i want to make it so villagers drop an item when they die, (example; cod) and I'm not sure how to do that so if anyone knows could they please tell me how? Thx

I'm pretty sure you have to create a loot table and apply it to the villager.

Try to show them an emerald in-game, and then kill them. That should work
