Are changes retrocompatible?

For example, I have an axe which can duplicate any log that I destroy.

I update MCreator, I change my workspace settings and the game's version.

Are the changes still there or I must have two different workspaces and redo any change that I make?

Apologies for my english.

Of course, I can't use it in 1.18.2 if I export my mod, but it will still be in my workspace and it will not be erased?
