How do I rearrange mod elements

Unfortunately you can't make a custom list of elements in your workspace, only change their listing by different categories. By pressing rectangular button with red and blue arrows above it, however, you can alter their place in a player's creative inventory.

I really might have to go ahead and hit "duplicate mod element" on every single element I want reorganized, in the order I want them to be in. Creative inventory sorting isn't enough, I want JEI to have my crafting recipes in a reasonable order.
