This is kind of possible already, but it's very janky. The custom background gets replaced with every change you make and you can't see it in the GUI editor, so it would be nice to have an option to change it in the GUI editor without these issues.
Slots could have a dotted outline to make things like custom slot shapes or sizes easier to understand.
