Topic category: Troubleshooting, bugs, and solutions
Hello, I have a huge bug to report that makes using this program impossible;
I have tried MCreator 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 on Windows before, and this bug never happened,
Main isssue is at the bottom of this report
Additional info about the bug:
However once I ran MCreator on Linux:
The problem arises...
Steps of reproduction:
- Open MCreator through ./mcreator.sh in terminal
- Make a new workspace (for any version of minecraft)
- Wait till "Creating Gradle" phase
And that's it, it's that simple!
Now onto the bug's "symptoms":
- Freezes the operating system; thus needing a hard reboot or using magic printSQ
- The program/operating system doesn't respond to any inputs (besides magic PrintSQ) so Alt-F4 doesn't work
- The mouse freezes after most of the operating system becomes unusable
After the hard reboot/REISUB, the workspace isn't even created,
Before on my first experiences with linux, this used to be a 1 in 3 chance, then it became a 1 in 2, and now it always happens (1 in 1 chance; 100%)
Imagine instead of a sudden freeze, imagine if the operating system just slowly gets more and more unusable, steps:
- Nothing at first
- Slight lag
- Mouse wont input
- All Operating system GUI becomes unusable and wont work
- Mouse begins to lag when moved around
- Mouse freezes, all inputs don't work, and being forced to hard reboot
Specs:
3.8 GB RAM
Intel Core i3-4005U CPU 1.70 GHz x 4
Intel HD Graphics 4400 (HSW GT2)
Disk Capacity: 1.0TB
Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
OS Type: 64 Bit
GNOME Version: 3.36.8
Windowing System: X11
Edit: Time to document my findings on this bug (Main Issue)
I realize that while MCreator is creating the gradle, it starts off with the allocated ram i gave it (1000 mb) then... It creates 2 other java processes:
One is taking 200 MB ram
Two is taking ~400 MB ram
Three is taking 2000 MB (2 GB) ram!!!
I saw it almost spike to 3000 MB
and not just that but:
98% Of my CPU was being used...
If anyone got any tips incase I am unaware of some setting or whatever, please share!
Hmm, I can run MCreator on 20.04 fine.
Also even if you can get it to run, 3.8 GB of RAM is a bit too little for MCreator
