help with directional block placement

im trying to add a crystal that places in the same way that amethyst clusters do, but they dont place in the right orientation

the bounding box is correct with the model of the block, so it seems it properly knows which way is up

currently i am using D/U/N/S/W/E rotation from block face, and ive tried other  rotation modes with no success and i just dont know whats going wrong

if i could also get help on how to make the block break when the supporting block is broken that would be greatly appreciated
