Is there a way to make items get enchanted after eating a food?

Hello, For the mod im working on i am adding new and improved foods, one of the features i want is that when certain items are eaten, they can grant temporary enchants (ex: after eating hot sauce you get fire aspect and flame) but it feels no matter what i do i can only get the item you eat to be enchanted, and if you want something like protection that wont exactly help, so i am asking if anyone has an idea on how to fix this.
