¿How to do a weathering procedure with modded blocks and vanilla blocks?

I understand that one way to execute this procedure with modified blocks is:  https://imgur.com/L9IMJsG

 

However, I can't find a way to do it similar or similar at least with vanilla blocks, minecraft's own default...

¿Any suggestions?
