How do I increase resolution for armor textures

I am making an armor mod which is my first mod and I couldn’t make the design I wanted because there wasn’t enough space on the canvas as its only like 8x8 on the helmet so I wanted to know how to increase the resolution for the texture so I can edit it and make the armor design I wanted.
