Update Mod Version

Hello !

I read different topics about updating a mod's version but.

I can't wait the 2021.1 update to start working on my 1.16.5 mod.

I am under 2020.5 and I can only make 1.15.5 Mods.

If I start working like this, by downloading the new 2021.1 version, could I update my mod to 1.16.5 ?

Or at least copy all textures and things to the new version but it will be longer.
