Help with item removing

I'm trying to make an dinosaur mod but i can't make it so that when you use and hatched dinosaur egg it disapears. Please help

Set item in main hand of event target entity to get items in main hand of event target entity - 1

OR remove 2 EGG from players main inventory

i guess this just can't be done because when i try to do it the dinosaur desn't want to spawn
