Is there a way I can update a mod?

Is there a way I can either (One) update an old mod to work with 1.16.1-1.16.5, or (Two) reverse engineer the mod to work with 1.16.1-1.16.5? Or (Three) utilize a little of both.

yes, if you go to workspace settings, there is an option for changing the mod version, but backup the mod before doing so

thecatlover sorry, I'm talking about already existing mods (E.G The Borderlands Weapon Mod at https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/bl-weapon-mod) and what I meant was, if there is a way I can update that very old mod.

Yes, if you remake it. But keep in mind you will most likely break copyright laws by doing that

Klemen as for permission, I tried In every way I know how to, to contact the original Creator for permission a little over 4 years ago. And besides, so long as you don't redistribute, sell, make money of and/or anything like that? Updating a mod that was not only inexcusably abandoned for years. But also w hasn't replied In more than 4 years when you're tried asking, Isn't theft or even any other copyright violation, It's reviving perfection, anyways, I'm not trying to promote piracy, start any arguments, sound disrespectful, or anything like that. I am just saying that a Modder shouldn't need another Modder's permission to bring back what they, the Mod Creator chose to leave behind for a very long time.

But that just It though, I honestly cannot find anything suggesting you need the original owners permission.

[Abandoned property refers to any personal property that is left by an owner who has intentionally relinquished all rights to its control. When property is intentionally abandoned, it belongs to no one until it is found.]

https://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/abandoned-personal-prope….

If that applies to a car, couch, and a few other things under certain circumstances. Then should that also apply to Mods Abandoned (not updated) for almost ten years? If I come across as disrespectful, I'm sorry, and It Is not my Intentions.

All Rights Reserved does not allow any redistrubution or editing mod and sharing that edited version to public, unless creators 1) wrote that somewhere stating directly that you are allowed to do so (but it is highly unprobable, because they would choose MIT License instead), or 2) they gave you permission for it.

And abandoned property case is not used for mods, which fall within copyright law. As such, they lose the "authorship" after 70 years (sometimes more or less depending on country, but almost everywhere it is 70 years).

Also, not offending the original idea, but it wasn't that much original that you can't make your own mod inspired on that (inspired = not copying, but having similar ideas and your own textures).

This way you don't need to care about copyright, and you can add much more (or different) things too. You can pay respect by writing that it is inspired by this specific mod, which you missed on newer versions.

Toma400 don't worry you didn't offend me. But do do you see where I'm getting at? And I mean In my In my defense, I tried asking the creator about 4 years ago.
