How to create and import a armour layer texture?

I am trying to make a Minecraft but style mob but when I am making armour, I go through the steps and create all the textures, then on the properties page it is asking for a armour layer texture but there is nothing in the drop down and no option any where to import one anywhere. I can't seem to get help anywhere so I have come here. As well as a way to import one can I also know how to make one in the first place using my already existing textures?

Hello can please get a reply? It might seem I am being impatient but I need it for the mod I am working on and the longer I can't find a answer, the more time I will be wasting. Thanks for your understanding!

You have to import an armor texture, there is a button on the top left of Mcreator's GUI. What I do is I import the iron armor texture that I got from Minecraft's assets, then edit it. Or edit it and then import it.

Hello, I have a solution to this. I understand this is an extremely old post, but for any future searchers, here is a solution. Instead of using "import texture", select your texture and use "replace texture" to replace the auto-generated texture with your own.

What worked for me was downloading both layers of the diamond armor, and just putting that in.
