My flying mob is to slow

I've looked at other post on this subject but they haven't worked.

I'm making a flying mob that the player can tame, and then it will work like a dog but flying. The problem is that flying mobs are insanely slow. My mob can barely catch up to a walking mob. No matter what I set speed to they wont go any faster. I've tried other posts solutions but they didn't help. 

Is there any way to make flying mobs faster, or am I stuck with a super slow bird.
