So I know how to make it so that a modded item can remain in a crafting grid or be replaced by some other item when it is used in a recipe. However I want to override a vanilla item to do the same thing (ex. a bottle of honey is used in a recipe, I want to get the bottle back after crafting, similar to how a milk bucket returns an empty bucket when crafting a cake). I've seen examples of overriding entire vanilla recipes however I don't think the solution to my problem is in the recipe, but in the item itself. Is this possible to do?
