How do you make an animated portal texture

So basically I am making a mod, and I want the portal to have an animated portal thing, just like the Minecraft  one, but when I get a 16x64 (4 framed 16x16 textures) with that, it squished it into 1 16x16 texture making it look very wonky, and I tried to split them up, but then it wont be animated, just a single frame of the portal, please help me as I am stuck on this issue and have been for a while.

The best solution achieve animated portal texture would be to actually make animation with mcreator animation option.
Just use the frames you got and set them in correct order.
