Remote Workspace sync failed: cannot invoke

I am creating a mod with one of my friends and we have set up the github repository and remote workspace correctly. My friend can sync and update the remote workspace just fine but when I attempt to sync it is gives an error saying: Remote Workspace sync failed! Cannot invoke "org.eclipse.jgit.lib.AnyObjectid.hashCode()" because "id" is null

We have tried checking password and sharing permissions on remote workspace so we do not think it is an issue of access

what should I do?
