How do I make the night extra dark?

So I'm trying to make a mod that makes the game harder, and I wanted the night to be pitch black, but I don't know how to change brightness.

It would also be helpful if you could make it more dark with a full moon

I'm using 2025.2, 1.21.4

You might hate me for this but I suggest doing the same thing I commented on your other mining speed post lmao. You could create an effect that mimics blindness, give it multiple levels, and have it apply to "target entity" on global trigger "on player tick update". and apply each effect level according to the moonphases, I believe there are moonphases detectors but not certain. Also in the same procedure above this, "IF world time is day THEN remove effect, "Your effect name"

First of all, I don't know how to do that.

Also, wouldn't the effect be cureable by milk?

Apologies, I figured vision would be an attribute of some kind that you could set like any other, but it seems its a client side fog render system instead.. Here is a link to a minecraft forge forum where this topic is discussed but with coding. You could at least get a basic understanding of how the effect works and go from there.. If you find more info ill be here to help..
