Topic category: Collaborations and mod teams
Hi I've been designing for years, various projects for jewellery and silverware and other non Minecraft stuff but after being let go from my last non design job I want to get a role which I can do remotely and help bring new capabilities to Minecraft mods. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of design and I've managed to do this with some addon concepts. I'd really like to be a concept designer within a mod team. As someone who has worked in retail for over a decade, I enjoy getting to the route of problems and providing a solution by asking questions and expanding out what the vision or goal of the customer is. With designing for clients I used similar techniques discovering what the client was seeking in their design vision; I feel I can use this type of investigative technique to gain good understanding of what the client in mod design is seeking to then map out a concept, give concept art and show the workings of the addon to then present to the team and create mods which will stand out of the general population of Minecraft mods.
As a Minecraft player I'm a builder at heart but as a designer I enjoy the lore or backstory of a concept I also enjoy unique aspects in gameplay I'll post a couple of small concept ideas that I've got mapped out (about 90% complete); as the other ideas I have are large concepts with massive development opportunities which I would rather keep to myself until I'm working within a mod team to avoid plagerisim or concept stealing; giving the mod team the opertunity to build something unique and generate income from the concepts
QR Coder addon
This is a simple idea to link up on Minecraft
so if you have a server or a realm and want to link up a build you have created to let others see where you found the design or if you have an addon and want to show other players who made the addon and other add-ons they created you can via a QR code in game by scanning your screen with your smart phone or tablet, you can be surfing the web directly to a page relevant to the place you are standing in game.
So what is it?
it's a generator for QR codes, it is a QR coder block which players click and an input box is presented, it gives you an input to the website and a colour choice of the QR codes you want to generate it also gives options to the framing of your QR code to be place into your world as an item for an item frame placed like a map
I have tested the concept out by building a large QRcode in game placing it in as an actual map and I can confirm it works the tech difficulty is only in the coding from what I understand as it pushes boundaries from Minecraft coding to Real world interaction outside the Minecraft world
So who would use this addon?
It's a unique addon which would appeal to Minecraft realm and server owners who wish to link up websites in their Minecraft world. Minecraft YouTubers and streamers linking to there merch stores, mod developers who wish to advertise their creations online via videos and for teaching lessons through Minecraft, build guide videos or dual world gameplay (problem solving outside Minecraft with website to then input an answer or code to a chest to open it) the possibilities of use are large in application and the addon brings new capabilities to Minecraft
Ghost addon
When combining with other horror add-ons this could add a level of creepiness to the game play utilizing the enderman mechanic.
so how would this work? (Ghost can only spawn in game at night, during the day it's ghost free no signs of haunting) so what is the ghost? It's a deceptive mob will tell the player various answers of who it is most will be made up by game interactions recorded in game) but the mechanic functions due to reallocating the block or item choice of the enderman (ghost), and making the enderman not visible. the ghost enderman can pick up items or blocks within a structure and place them within the same structure. It can open doors and break window panes, the noise the enderman makes will still be audible but no violence toward the player only movement within the area or structure
Other details: using a frosting effect (fading in) on glass such as a window the ghost can write messages. the messages will remain on the area for a few minutes before vanishing or they vanish when the ghost despawns at daylight (fading out)
FD: using the player chat screen. the player can interact with the ghost using simple responses (yes, no, maybe,) or simple questions or responses like "what do you want?" Leave me alone. Etc
The ghost has a set of statements or questions each with their own path of response
1) Get out! (Player response- no) *Enderman scream sound*
2) Run! (PR-No) 4) do you want to live? PR-Yes RUN!!
3) knock knock
(PR- who's there?)
Boo!
(PR- boo who?)
What you crying for?
Or
Boo!
(PR- What do you want?*)
Your XP!
4) do you want to live? (PR- Yes) Run!
5) (username) died
6) I have unfinished business (PR- what do you want?) *ghost writes item on window* see haunted item frame.
player (leave my stuff alone) no.... Ha ha ha!
Player (leave me alone) no.
Player (who are you?) the last (mob/ zombie/ skelly /creeper/ illager) you killed *mob noise depending on mob killed
The room which the ghost appears can experience effects as part of the interactions with the ghost (depending on age restriction of the add on these could include blood dripping from the ceiling like lava does or door noises, footsteps etc the floor where the player stands turns blood red. Or the room fills with cloud effect smoke and the ghost walks in front of the player or the ghosts face appears through the smoke then the face and smoke suddenly vanish) this could be a way of notifying the player of writing on the wall or items which have been moved
FD: new craftable item
The haunted item frame
The haunted item frame looks like an ornate picture frame when placed on a wall but when placed on a block laying flat it looks like a creepy item tray
Crafting recipe could be as simple as an item frame combined with a cursed book such as vanishing)
When mounted on a wall the items can be rotated by the ghost but non retrievable by the ghost (super effective if multiple haunted item frames are placed on a wall and ghost actively turns all the items)
However when mounted on a block as a tray the ghost can retrieve the item placed
When the player asks what do you want via the chat the ghost can write an item on the window these are random requests these can be detailed requests "raw chicken" "grey wool" or they can be vague "seeds" "boots" "axe"
The player then has a single day to find this item and place it on the tray before the next night
As a reward or payment the ghost can replace another item on the tray this would be useful to the player or unique item for the addon
Useful items can be books, tools or armour or other items to the player (2% chance the item is cursed)
Unique items could be items like
Music discs (these could be different coloured vinyl discs to differentiate from vanilla game ((dark grey)) each disc has a different ring band colour
Time (first 35 seconds of pink floyds time track)
Creaking doors
Grotesque noises such as crunching or slurping to give creepy horror vibes to players builds
Ghost wailing crying
Creepy talking discs (various free use horror sounds available on YouTube)
Splash potions
Mainly aiming at debilitating potions such as
poison
Weakness
Slowness
