Can anyone give me some armor templates that are compatible with MCreator? Preferably one I can edit in a graphic-editing program?

Nova skin has an armor texture maker
If you mean because you can't just import normal armor textures then it's because you have to go to tools > import armor texture, and then choose the 2 armor textures you want (remember that the boots texture should end with "_layer_2" and the other parts name should end with "_layer_1", as an example: "diamondArmor_layer_1.png")
