Topic category: Help with Minecraft modding (Java Edition)
Hi there! I'm pretty new to this, but it's awesome and something I want to make a full-fledged mod with. I have some questions, though, and I hope someone will be able to help me-
- I've seen tutorials on how MCEdit can be used to create randomly generated structures, like temples and such. Unfornuately, all such tutorials are extremely outdated. Does this still work? And is there a way to do it using blocks from the as-yet-unfinished mod?
- Along the same lines, tree customization is limited right now for me. Does that work on the same principle as temples and such? How can I select different vanilla leaves and woods (it defaults to oak, and the others aren't options).
- Talking of wood, is there a way to make stairs, slabs, etc. that use a single wood texture?
- Can you make it so that certain items- flowers, ores, etc.- spawn only in a single biome? And how does one get it so things like tulips and emeralds spawn outside of their normal regions?
- Techne. I cannot find Techne for download anywhere, and it's cramping my style. I want to make my own mobs, but... where can I find Techne? Or, failing that, is there another way to make and animate models?
- Is there a way of getting villages to spawn in custom biomes?
Thanks for reading through this! I'd appreciate any help!

q1: Yes it still works, but not with moded blocks.
q2: Same as q1
q3: For slabs, on the page where you select the block, make the max y be 0.5. the other things don't work right now(well they do but very badly)
q4: IDK
q5: Techne should be on the tools page for MCreator
q6:IDK
Hope this helps a little.
Thanks for the help! Techne is in the tools page, but it won't download or open. As to the tree question again, how can I change the wood and leaf types? They're stuck on oak, and the selection menu doesn't show other options.
As a side note, is podzol anywhere in the menu? I can't seem to find it.
@#2 for trees, do what you did for tor the MCedit, except this time, in the custom biome, select import or something and import the file to there. I dont know if podzol is on the menu. if it is, it'd be underneath where dirt is, but named "dirt#". the number would be something. It'd be easy to skip over it, so don't feel bad if you can't find it. Oh ya, for the tree be sure to not use a modded block. if you do, it wont register that block when exporting, and that will make it place some random block from vanilla minecraft.
Is there anyone that can help me find Techne? That's really what I need the most right now.
I'm pretty sure the Techne website got shutdown or something, If you want I can send the installer.
techne got shut down and all current downloads don't work, mcskin3d isn't as good as techne but it works
1- Structures were always bugged, until 1.8.0,the latest update. Now you can make structures using the in-game vanilla structure block, and that works with modded blocks and mobs too!
2- There are 3 options when making trees: the first is using vanilla oak trees, the second is using a custom tree and the third is using a tree that you built (like if it was a structure).
If you want to add more tree variants in your biome, just add a structure, make it look like a tree and make it spawn in that biome.
3- You can make blocks with custom 3d model (I recommend using Blockbench for that) but you can't make them rotate like slabs and stairs do (they won't rotate at all)
4- Technically, no.
But here is a workaround: make a structure that is actually just a block and make it spawn in a certain biome. It will look like if that block is spawning like an individual flower/ore.
5- You can use Tabula, Techne was discontinued
6- Unless you build the village and save ut using the structure block, not.
