So, I was in the process of making a mod, but it wasn't huge. I opened Mcreator and accidentally click on the second workspace which was empty. I could not switch back to my previous workspace, so I stopped Mcreator with task manager. When I reopened Mcreator, my workspace was gone. I check the files, and non of them were there. It was gone completely except for the asset file. Inside of the file is just a bunch of empty folders. I think that by stopping Mcreator with the task manager somehow caused the program to just wipe the folders or something while also closing mcreator. I checked the backup folder and it only had a new backup of a new mod. I created the mod thinking that it was just opening Mcreator in the second workspace, but it was the first one. I was using the 1.8.3 version of Mcreator.
There are backups of workspaces in forge/.mcreator/ folder. Forcefully closing MCreator is never a good idea, though.
Thanks for the reply, but after looking further, I do believe that even the backup listed was deleted. I managed to save a few textures that I had saved elsewhere(recycle bin because they were copies), so I remade the mod from scratch.
MCreator 1.9.0 will be much more reliable on this topic.
