A Huge Minecraft Space Mod

Hello! If you have clicked on this post, I guess you want to know what it's all about! Trailblazer is a massive sci-fi story mod that I am currently working on. It is a work in progress, so is not finished yet, and I won't expect it to be released for some time. The point is, pretty much anything you want in space - even if it's not space related (It can be on a planet) - you can post it here, and I will try to put it in the mod. If your idea doesn't make it into full release (I have a roadmap for it and it's looking pretty big), then I will try to put all suggested features that could fit in the next major update (bugfixing will probably come first). Even if your idea doesn't fit (say you want a character from a game you play or something) I can still manage to fit it in - as a decorative toy, an NPC template or their clothes as an armour set!

More or less anything goes, it's not supposed to be a realistic mod :)

So, what is the mod about exactly? Why don't I just use Galacticraft?

Well, as I've already said, it's a space mod. However, unlike Galacticraft (a semi-realistic space mod), it's not about the grind. Getting to space doesn't take long - all you need is to wait for an event (No spoilers about what it is) which could happen from any time between when you first spawn and finish the game! However, the RNG used for determining the event won't be too rare, so you can be fairly certain of it happening in your first couple days. After this, only minimal (well, not exactly minimal, but considerably less than Galacticraft) resource gathering is required and you're off! There is a storyline (absolutely no spoilers about that!), which will hopefully be engaging and fun!

There will be spaceship battles, crew, NPCs, missions, quests, bounty hunting with procedurally generated enemies and many other interesting mechanics - even new status bars!

Say I don't go to space. Does it change anything in the Overworld?

You can expect Meteor showers for one thing! Meteors will occasionally fall from the sky near you, exploding on impact. In their core will be a new ore!

Also, Health and Hunger will not be shown any more (except for when you are on low health or hunger). There will also be a Tough as Nails addon for this feature. You will need to craft a Status Checker to view these, as well as your new stat bars.

I like some of those features! Can I get them without the main mod, so it can feel more vanilla-y?

Yes, you will be able to! I will have a separate mod page for different parts of the mod that I feel will work well without space. These will include the blacked-out Health and Hunger bars, and a modified version of the Bounty Hunting. These will not be compatible with the main mod as well, however.

That will be quite a while. However, if I have people helping me with it, making textures, models etc. it'll be quicker! If you contribute in this way, you will have your Minecraft skin (or, if you don't want to share your username, something related to your profile picture) as an NPC template. You can say if you would rather it was something else, and that's fine :)

 

Note: Development will take a long time before release. Do not expect the mod to be out soon. However, the main parts of the mod have been planned out.

Progress Bar

Please note that I am grouping most of these in stages of progression in the mod, rather than in element types (with the exception of ores and materials) because it's difficult to say how much of the different element types will be in the mod.

Planning (of what the mod's initial release is going to include): 60%

NPCs: 0% < This will take a long time to get the AI to seem natural, and also to get all of the different skin templates for them.

Planets: 4%

Storyline: 0%

Early Stages (before going into space): 95% (this has actually gone backwards a little, due to some issues with procedures meaning a rework is required)

Spaceships: 5%

Ores and Materials: 5%

Galaxy Map: 15%

Stage 5 of the storyline

Possibly bounty hunting, but we'll see ;)

 

Should I release a public test version after I finish the first solar system or two? (It'll be far from finished at that point, but it'd be helpful to have bugs and issues pointed out early in development)

Some ideas: A silverfish…

Some ideas:

  1. A silverfish-like bug that is extremely hostile, maybe even does poison or wither effects on attack. Spawns on meteors and/or asteroids. 
  2. Some sort of super-conductive ore. It causes lightning it strike it periodically (If on a planet if weather). This super-conductor would be used in the strongest of energy sources - such as the dyson sphere that liseczeq suggested. This superconductor could even be used to harness energy from some sort of particle accelerator.
  3. Some sort of machine that is used to manipulate gravity. It would have three options:
  •  Strengthen:
    • This drastically increases the chances of a meteor strike.
      • If on a planet with an already strong gravity, kill nearby players - then destroy the machine, dropping the materials it took to make it.
      • If on a planet with a normal gravity, give slowness to players.
      • If on a planet with weak gravity, remove any jump boost/levitation effects.
  • Weaken:
    • This decreases the chances of a meteor strike.
      • If on a planet with strong gravity remove any slowness effects
      • If on a planet with normal gravity, add the jump boost & levitation low-grav combo.
      • If on a planet with already low gravity, gives levitation to nearby players. When they reach the build height, kill them. Once they die, cause an explosion at the location of the machine.
  • Generate:
    • This creates a gravitational field of its own. It is used on spaceship.

I think I would probably make it upgradeable, so you start with one that can generate a gravitational field for your spaceship, but by upgrading ti with more materials, you can gain access to the other options.

I have another idea. On some planets could be ancient alien ruins of houses / castles etc...

In those ruins could be some treasures or fossils of aliens. If used some machine those fossils could be revived back to be aliens.

I have a new idea too!

Deomedria - dead and lost space station. Artificial planet made of different structures with chests, spawners, etc. This planet is dead but there are mobs (frozen astronauts) and bosses (idk).

Man, my mod hasn't any suggestion. You are a lucky! XP

Hey! This is looking like it's going to be a great mod!

I had an idea for a planet (since I saw you saying you needed them)

(Disclaimer: haven't used mcreator in a while, so excuse any ignorance from me for difficulty or impossibility of features)

A planet which is pitch black, and all light sources you place down will be broken (by mobs if possible) within a minute or so of placing. (or of the light activating) All lights on planet are dimmer from what they originally were. Maybe a rare ore spawns above ground which incentivizes players to visit. Mobs could be moths, and are only hostile when lights are present, and are left hostile for about a minute after the light is broke. A boss could be a giant moth, which gets attracted to light (like the rest) so placing a redstone lamp, then connecting redstone to it and attaching a lever (decently far away) and shooting the moth when it's near the light would be it's weakness.

Sorry if someone already said something similar, there are a lot of posts lol
