Custom block model textures vanishing when blocks are placed around it

I made a 2 block tall custom block model for a mod I'm creating. When there is a block placed below the block one side of the upper texture vanishes, also when I place blocks around the lower part of the block some upper textures start glitching out. Here are some screenshots:
