How can I make a respawn block similar to a bed

I am trying to make a mod for me and my friend's server that adds a block that when you right click it, it sets your spawn point to that block, but if someone destroys it, the person who set that as their respawn point gets put in hardcore mode.

As of now I made the block but I don't know how to make it into a respawn block
