how do i add an nbt tag with an item i want to give to a player

hello!

im trying to make an economy-based mod. for that, i want users to exchange so called paychecks, which you get with a custom command i made. now for this to work, i want this paycheck item that is given once used the command, to have custom nbt containing its value. is there any way to do this?
